A collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Shomei Higashimatsu. Shomei Higashimatsu is one of the most prominent photographers in postwar Japan. He has always maintained a high level of awareness of issues and a relentless quest to discover the original image of Japan and the Japanese people, including a desire for peace based on the internal wounds of Nagasaki, Okinawa, and other areas during the war, criticism of civilization and politics from a sharp perspective, and an inquiry into the involvement of humans in nature and materials. His works include "11:02 NAGASAKI," "Oh! Shinjuku," "Japan," "Pencil of the Sun," and other masterpieces from the 1960s to the 1970s. This book, the 15th volume in the "Showa Photography: All Works" series, is a retrospective of Higashimatsu's work, with chapters on each series: "NAGASAKI," "Sakura," "Occupation," "Postwar Japanese," "High Growth," "Eros and Power," "Pencil of the Sun," "Glowing Wind," "Southeast Asia Travel," and "Mr. Freedam, The book contains representative works from the early 1950s to 1983. The book is mainly in black-and-white, with some color photographs included, and is designed to provide a personal view of Higashimatsu, a photographer who captured postwar Japan from a personal point of view.
