A Shikishiban surimono woodblock print by RYURYUKYO SHINSAI (1764?-1820) depicting a woman doing another woman’s hair
The print embellished with metallic pigments and is from the series Goshiki no uchi (Five colors), signed Shinsai,

The print is mounted in a black, wooden frame and features a 19th century label inscribed with:

Shinsai (Ryuryukyo) c. 1808-1845
Tsuge no kushi “the boxwood comb” A woman standing finishing the coiffure of another woman seated before her mirror.

An identical print was sold at Christie’s on March 22nd 2022 for 8220 USD here with a different title and dating. And when researching the artist it seems like there is some doubt as to what years he was active, it is however certain that he lived from the late 18th century in to the first half of the 19th century.

Measuring ca.
Image size within the frame 17.5x20
Frame size: 39.5x35.7 cm

Condition - Some fading to the colors and mild foxing of the paper
Otherwise good with marks and blemishes commensurate with age

Seller's response

Hello, like I said it has nothing to do with a crack but is a firing flaw which was mentioned. I also told you that you’re welcome to file a complaint with Catawiki. Since you haven’t done so I assume it’s because you know you don’t have a case. I will ask Catawiki to have this unwarranted feedback removed as I won’t put up with your attempt to get an undeserved discount

Arrived in perfect condition Very well packed Foo Dogs No damage just as photos and description Very happy with my purchase
