Anatolia Marble Figure of a Mother Goddess
Schematic dark gray marble figure of a seated woman of rounded and generous shape, of the so-called “steatopygic” Neolithic figures, prominent belly, rounded buttocks and cross-legged, her arms over her rounded belly.
One of the theories most commonly accepted places steatopygic statuettes in context with the religious sphere: they would be closely related to the Mother Goddess; this type of figure would have been worshipped in a very wide and varied area, ranging from Near East to Western Central Europe.
