Alessi - Alessandro Mendini - Cake stand - ''Anna Gong'' - Folding cake stand in 18/10 stainless steel

This “Anna Gong” folding cake designed in 2011 by Alessandro Mendini stands as an intriguing blend of functional art and culinary utility, encapsulating the essence of dual-purpose design. A modern reimagining by Mendini of Alessi’s historical product “art. 898”, this creation was brought to life by the Alessi Engineering Department under the guidance of Carlo Alessi. Much like its predecessor, which saw immense popularity in the 1960s, the “Anna Gong” stands out for its dual functionality and aesthetic appeal. When closed, the “Anna Gong” cake stand serves as an elegant table-top sculpture, showcasing its artistry and becoming a conversation piece. It transcends the typical limitations of folding objects, which often become non-functional when closed. Instead, “Anna Gong” transforms into a captivating object of admiration, maintaining its presence and charm even when not in use as a cake stand. Opening the “Anna Gong” is a simple yet delightful process. By lifting apart its “hairdo”, which acts as a clever clasp, the sculpture seamlessly transforms into a three-tier cake stand. This quick-change artist reveals its practical side, providing a stunning display platform for cakes and other delicacies at the table. Crafted from cold-pressed 18/10 stainless steel, the cake stand ensures durability and a sleek, modern look. Designed by Alessandro Mendini, “Anna Gong” is a tribute to the legendary “art. 898”. Mendini's touch brings a contemporary twist to the timeless elegance of its predecessor, celebrating the fusion of art and functionality. This ‘’Anna Gong’’ cake stand, featuring whimsical swirls and twirls that add a playful yet sophisticated touch to the dining experience. This ‘’Anna Gong’’ folding cake stand is in a new condition and has never been used. Delivered with original packaging. The black Alessi logo is a sticker then can be removed. About Alessandro Mendini: Alessandro Mendini (1931 - 2019) studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. Afterwards he became a designer and editor-in-chief for several magazines. Mendini played an important part in the development of Italian, postmodern, and radical design by contributing new “values” and “sensibilities” into design that have been eclipsed by commercialism and functionalism. Mendini received great attention for his work and was awarded with several prizes, including three times the Compasso d'Oro and the European Prize for Architecture.
