Maruyama Oshin (1790-1838) Maruyama Oshin was a son of Oju, the second son and an adopted son of Maruyama Okyo, the school’s founder, who was adopted into the main branch of the family in order to devote himself to painting and eventually become the family's next head: the third headmaster of the Maruyama School. Oshin, like his father and grandfather, devoted himself to small-scale paintings. His paintings frequently include Japanese poems or took inspiration from them. His works can be seen today in the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, .
