Daimler - Sovereign 4.2 Series 1 - 1970
OVERVIEW/CONDITIONS
98,527 Jaguar XJ and Daimler Sovereign 1st series were produced. Of these, only 726 were in the Daimler 4.2 version with left-hand drive. Very few of these were equipped with a manual gearbox with overdrive, the Daimler customer loved comfort more than sporty driving!
The car up for auction is among the first produced, in 1970, exactly the 98th.
It was produced in 1970, in October, and registered in Italy, in Venice, in January 1971. Since then it has had 5 owners and traveled until 2005.
The lines of the car are straight and do not suggest damage suffered in accidents; the Lucas headlights with flat glass (difficult to find, today you can only find those with curved glass) and the intact grille suggest that the car has never been hit. However, there are some points of corrosion, even through. The chrome is in fair condition and a polishing with suitable products brings it back to very acceptable. The floor seems intact, without rust.
The interior is complete and in fair/good condition, but the seats have been reupholstered with incorrect material (leather or imitation leather), while still respecting the original design and stitching.
The engine runs freely but has not been started. The oil is at the correct level and shows no traces of other fluids. The gearbox, equipped with overdrive, shifts perfectly.
This Sovereign is a car of great interest to the Jaguar-Daimler brand enthusiast; it retains many original features and options that make it a very rare piece: the manual gearbox with overdrive, the original air conditioning, 4 electric windows, front headrests and above all the Sundym tinted windows!
It's worth a restoration!
