A delightful miniature from an Indian Quran dated 1548/9. Consisting of 12 lines of fine Nashki in black ink, believed to be from the Median Chapter 22, Al-Hadj (The Pilgrimage) v28-33, which talks of the pilgrimage and the total devotion to God.
The leaf, whose script is contained within a 8.5x4.5cm framed area, is amazingly clear given its size. The scripture is written within golf clouds which separate the lines of text and contains simple gold aya. The decorative marginal Juz marks a 10th division (in this case the 30th verse of the Chapter).
