-> 2011 Quinta do Vallado Adelaide Vintage Port 1 x 0.75L
DESCRIPTION
Quinta do Vallado, established in 1716, is one of the oldest and most famous estates in the Douro Valley. It is located on the banks of the Corgo River, a tributary of the Douro River, right next to its mouth and close to the town of Peso da Régua. It belonged to the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and remains to this day in the hands of her descendants. Acquired in 1818 by António Bernardo Ferreira (uncle and father-in-law to Dona Antónia), Quinta do Vallado’s main activity was the production of port wine, which was sold by the family’s port house – Casa Ferreira. This occured until 1987, when Casa Ferreira was sold. During this period, Jorge Viterbo Ferreira, great-grandson of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, followed by his son Jorge Cabral Ferreira, were at the helm of Quinta do Vallado's management. After the sale of Casa Ferreira, new challenges arose, and in 1993, under the direction of Guilherme Álvares Ribeiro and his wife Maria Antónia Ferreira, the company decided to expand the business into the production, bottling and marketing of own-label wines. The new vineyards were planted using a single variety on each plot, breaking with the old tradition of mixing different varieties in the same plot. Today, Quinta do Vallado has 10 hectares of old vineyards planted between the 1920s and 1950s, including Vinha da Granja, in 1929, and Vinha da Coroa, in 1958. The remaining 55 hectares were planted in the 1990s. In Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Quinta do Vallado acquired Quinta do Orgal where, since 2009, 35 hectares of organically farmed vineyards have been planted.

WINE VARIETIES: Old Vines (70%) & Touriga Nacional (30%).

VINIFICATION
The grapes used in this Port are a mix of two lots. One consists of mixed old vineyards, with several varieties mixed together in the field (a “Field Blend”) and the second one was made with Touriga Nacional. The grapes were fermented separately, with 50% of the must mixed with the stems in order to extract higher acidity which will contribute to longevity and structure in the wine. Fermentation was arrested with the addition of a spirit. After this, the wine aged for 20 months in stainless steel vats. Quinta do Vallado has been producing Port wine since the beginning of the 19th century.

TASTING NOTES
The 2011 Adelaide is a full-bodied port with deep aromas of intense dark fruits of plum and berries with ripe and soft tannins. Excellent structure and complexity leading to a long and elegant finish.

SERVING
A classic vintage Port from the region, it is perfect served on its own, and also very tasty when served with aged Stilton or other blue cheeses and nuts.

-> 2011 C. da Silva, Dalva Vintage Port 1 x 0.75L
DESCRIPTION
In 1933, having just arrived from Brazil, Clemente da Silva realized his lifelong dream, creating an excellent wine house that would lead him to the globalization of his business: C. da Silva – resulting from the abbreviation of his name. A year later he registered the brand Dalva, which results from the contraction “da Silva”. With a simple and very Portuguese sound, success was easy to achieve in different markets.
Looking for an activity in which to invest the capital from his business in Brazil, the young entrepreneur takes advantage of the close collaboration with the company Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos, founded in 1862, and owned by his wife's family, to build up his initial stocks and give the first steps in the business, with Vintage Ports from 1896, 1912 or 1920 being famous.
Combining centuries-old knowledge and techniques with new technologies and innovation, Dalva's portfolio is unique and distinct, presenting an unparalleled offer of Colheita Port Wines, which include unique and limited editions, the classic Vintage Port Wines, and a range exclusive range of White Port Wines, culminating in the aged and dated Golden White and Dry White collection.

WINEMAKER: José Manuel Sousa Soares.

AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS
95 Points, Wine Enthusiast
94 Points, Revista Adega
17 Points, Jancis Robinson
17 Points, Revista de Vinhos

WINE VARIETIES: Traditional red grape varieties from the Douro Demarcated Region, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca & Sousão.

VINIFICATION
Produced only in the best years, from the best wineries, Vintages are the quintessence of Port Wine, with great aging potential.

TASTING NOTES
Tannic and concentrated, this is a powerful wine from its first moment. Ripe perfumes confirm the wine's richness, while acidity and density show strongly. Power and concentration match big berry fruit and finishing acidity.

SERVING
Can be enjoyed alone, alongside chocolate-based desserts or intense cheeses. Place in an upright position 24 hours before serving to avoid deposits. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. Consume in moderation.
