The eldest son and disciple of the Utagawa Kunimasa Ⅴ. He used surname,Baido(楳堂)、Kouchoro(香朝楼)、 Shokunimasa(小国政), Baido(梅堂), Utagawa, and Ryūa(柳蛙). From 1889 (Meiji 22) to 1896 (Meiji 29), it was called Utagawa KunimasaⅤ, and it is said that after taking over the national affairs around 1891, it was called the fifth national affairs. It is also said that he is a different person. He learned from Kunisada III ( kunimasaⅣ) and later became a disciple of Mitsumo Iijima(飯島光蛾). He produced many genre paintings, court paintings depicting the emperor, and many war paintings of the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War.
