Very rare Greek Orthodox relic holder Cross from Mount Athos Monastery,with carved boxwood, depicting the passion of Christ. The Cross is bifacial, carved on both sides.The Cross dates back probably to the 18-19th centuries and is protected inside a cross-shaped silvery bronze reliquary of the late 18th century.(with later base,presumably from the19th century)

Cross dimensions: 24x13x9 cm, condition: intact and complete.Cleaned and conservatid by restorer!

Similar specimens are kept in different museums. These are small Crosses, carved in olive wood, sometimes in boxwood or in other hard woods, depicting scenes from the life of Christ.
