Megalodon (/ˈmɛɡələdɒn/ MEG-əl-ə-don; Otodus megalodon), meaning "big tooth", is an extinct species of mackerel shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago (Mya), from the Early Miocene to the Pliocene epochs. It was formerly thought to be a member of the family Lamnidae and a close relative of the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). However, it is now classified into the extinct family Otodontidae, which diverged from the great white shark during the Early Cretaceous.
While regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators to have ever lived, the megalodon is only known from fragmentary remains, and its appearance and maximum size are uncertain. Scientists differ on whether it would have more closely resembled a stockier version of the great white shark, the whale shark (Rhincodon typus), the basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) or the sand tiger shark (Carcharias taurus). The most recent estimate with the least error range suggests a maximum length estimate up to 20.3 meters (67 ft), weighs up to 103 metric tons (114 short tons)

View translationDeze tand werd gevonden in Indonesië, Java, Cikalong. Hij is tussen de 4 en 2 miljoen jaar oud en werd gevonden door boeren in Indonesië. Ik heb hem rechtstreeks bij hen gekocht. Hij werd in april 2023 gevonden, uitgehouwen uit de rotsen. Dit betekent dat de tand op het land is gevonden. Dit land was een paar miljoen jaar geleden de zee. Je kunt zien dat het een “land” tand is, omdat hij bijna al zijn kartels nog heeft. Bij tanden die in de zee worden gevonden, zijn de kartels afgesleten. Tanden kunnen verschillende kleuren hebben zoals zwart, bruin, wit en zelfs blauw. Ze krijgen hun kleuren van de mineralen in de bodem waarin ze gefossiliseerd zijn. Dit soort tanden zijn op verschillende plaatsen in de wereld te vinden. Maar als je je tanden kent, kun je zien waar ze vandaan komen Deze tand is volledig gefossiliseerd (versteend) en behoeft geen verdere behandeling, maar laat hem niet vallen want hij is kwetsbaar.
