Sculpture, Folk/Naive "Santos" - Virgin Mary "Immaculate Conception" 18/19th Century - 25 cm - Wood
This rare Late 18th - 19th century folkloric/naive Hispano-Philippine "Santos" figure depicts the Virgin Mary as the Inmaculate Conception who is standing on top of the globe.
The statue gives a heartwarming sensation thanks to the kind and joyful expression of her face and the hands in praying posture, as typical of the Hispano-Philippine "Santos" figurines.
The delicate expresion of her face speaks highly of the local artist who crafted this piece.
She has her hair down, indicating that she is "inmaculate" and is wearing a blue cape on top of a white garment with painted red roses, indication of her sacrifice after ofering her Child to Martyrdom.
