Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) Officer cap circa 1925-1930, then the 3rd most populated city in the US after New York and Chicago. - Front badge with the city motto ''Philadelphia Maneto'' (meaning "Let brotherly love endure"). - Matching chinstrap buttons. - Blue wool soutache to the PPD. - Patent leather visor. - Leather chinstrap with small damage. - Leather sweatband somewhat unstitched. - Hard to read inner manufacturer's stamp: ''Fred M, Batchelder Co. - Boston-Chicago - Uniform Makers''. - Size 7 (EU equivalent 56). In the last 2 photos you can see the US police hat evolution: the tall custodian hat (similar to british Bobby) was replaced around 1920 by this model (called "bell crown cap") and then it was replaced around 1935 by the classic octagonal cap that most US Police Departments still wear today. These 2 other hats showed in the photos (1905 Boston PD & 1975 San Francisco PD) are NOT included in this auction.
