Koran - Persia - 1559 - Tabriz. A single Quranic folio scribed in 1559 by Muhammed inn Muhammad Hasan al-Tabrizi, with decorative marginals. The folio is from a disbound and well used Koran and its small size indicates it would have been a travelling Koran for personal use. it is in remarkable condition for its age.

The folio consists of 15 lines of fine nata’liq scripture, from the last four verses of the Meccan Chapters 44 and 45. Chapter 44 Ad-Dukhan (The Haze) deals with the fate of believers and disbelievers, Chapter 45 Al-Jathiyah (The Kneeling), with the judgement of deniers.

The folio is divided by the Chapter heading (Surah) Al-Jathiyah, written in white thuluth script within a golf cartouche. Two well preserved marginal roundels mark the last 5th verses of Chapter 44 and the 5th verse of Chapter 45. Gold 'aya' in free hand each with a central red marking and 5 radial markings in faded blue on the circumference mark the individual verses.

There is quite a complex frame for its size around the entire script, interrupted by a marginal comment within the left frame half way down. The frame consists of two inner gold columns seprated by a thin red frame line and an outer blue frame line completing the framing.

Although small this is a really fine folio in a well educated hand and in great condition for its age.

With our pleasure. Thank you for your purchase.

The art piece came damaged unfortunately. The glass from the front was broken. I recommend the seller to send it with Fan Courier or other high quality postal services. However, I really like it.

Was very satisfied until I found out that the manuscripts are held to the mount by adhesive tape impossible to remove without damaging the manuscripts. Who the hell puts tape on old manuscripts?!

Seller's response

We do show the mounting in the photographs that are provided for the auction. The tape we use is acid-free mounting tape and placed on the outer margins of the manuscripts on the reverse side.

Carefully packed, arrived in best condition

Thank you for this review. We are delighted you are satisfied. Kind regards.

Arrived very well packaged and padded. Go easy perhaps on the protective tape over the glass. It's the wrong type of tape. I can't remove it to see the painting !! But thanks all the same Rob

Seller's response

Glad it arrived safely but disappointed the tape is proving difficult to remove. I hadn't realised we had taped the glass. Will you be able to resolve?
