Els Scholten, Signed and numbered 14/15 copy. An artist book in an edition of only 15 copies. Hardcover 29,7x20,5cm. 2020gr. contains 282 portraits of politicians collected by the artist while staying in Rome, from 2 different Italian newspapers. This artists’ book consists of photographs taken from copies of the Italian newspapers La Republica and La Corriere della Serra, which were collected by Scholten during a series of visits to Rome. Each page shows a man, usually a politician or other public figure, gesturing with his hands or caught between words. Scholten began the series in 1988 following a three-month stay in Rome. In total she made 9 volumes, each in an edition of 15 copies, concluding the project in 1998. In 2000 she added a tenth volume of photographs of women.
