Anubis is known as the god of death and mummification in Egyptian mythology. He is one of the oldest and most important deities of ancient Egypt. Anubis is typically depicted with a jackal head or as a jackal and is believed to protect the souls of the dead and guide them in their transition to the afterlife.

Anubis is tasked with preserving and overseeing the mummification process, making him a central figure in funeral rituals. He is also the god who weighs the hearts of the dead to determine their fate in the afterlife. During this weighing process, the heart is balanced against a feather. If the heart is heavy, it is deemed sinful, and the soul is devoured by a creature called Ammut.

Anubis is usually depicted with a human body and a jackal head. This imagery stems from the association of jackals with graveyards and the dead. The color black, representing death and rebirth, is associated with Anubis.

Anubis is often said to be the son of Osiris. After Osiris's death, Anubis mummified his father and made him the ruler of the underworld. Additionally, Anubis escorts the souls of the dead to the underworld (Duat) and brings them before Osiris for judgment.

Anubis played a significant role in both religious rituals and daily life in ancient Egypt. Today, he is recognized as one of the most iconic and symbolic figures in Egyptian mythology.
