Le peuple Dogon vit au Mali, dans une région du pays appelée la boucle du Niger. Ils ont succédé aux Tellem à partir de 1500 environ de notre ère.
On les trouve plus particulièrement sur un plateau bordé par la falaise de Bandiagara, qui s'étend sur environ 200 kilomètres et surplombe une plaine.
Le corpus artistique traditionnel du peuple Dogon est centré sur le culte des ancêtres et des esprits.
On y trouve de nombreuses statues de différents courants stylistiques (kanaga, sirigé,...), des masques de fêtes parfois impressionnants (kanaga, sirigé,...), mais aussi des portes de greniers et des piliers de toguna.
Les objets en bronze fabriqués par le peuple Dogon sont également très connus.
