Coin: Æ silvered antoninianus, Emperor Probus, struck Cyzicus 277 AD. The authentic Roman coin is set in a new silver pendant with a laurel wreath border. To the Romans, a laurel wreath was a symbol of victory in war. Laurel wreaths were worn by triumphatores: victorious generals celebrating a Roman military triumph. On Roman coins or statues, the Emperor is often depicted wearing a laurel wreath as a symbol of power. Obverse: IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG, Radiate, helmeted and cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield Reverse: ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, Emperor riding left, holding sceptre and raising right hand, captive before horse.
