Fossiler Schädel eines Mosasaurus.
Beispiel für beträchtliche Größe und Gewicht. Einen so großen und in diesem Erhaltungszustand zu finden, ist eine Seltenheit.
Erstaunliche mit circa 87% des Natürlichen Skeletts was ein sehr hoher Prozentsatz für einen fast vollständigen Kopf ist, einschließlich aller Zähne und voller Details, unglaublich. Wunderschön präsentiert auf einem Metallständer.
Diese prähistorischen Eidechsen konnten eine Länge von 17 Metern erreichen.
Der Mosasaurus gehörte nicht nur zu den größten der Familie der Mosasauridae, sondern war auch die letzte Art, die ausgestorben ist, und andererseits war er die erste Gattung Es wurde angenommen, dass dieses faszinierende Reptil eines der größten Raubtiere seiner Umgebung war. Die Morphologie und die Abmessungen deuten tatsächlich auf eine ausgeprägte Anpassung an Raubtiere hin. Zahlreiche in Fossilienfunden gefundene Kieferwunden deuten darauf hin, dass diese Tiere einen besonders gewalttätigen Lebensstil führten und sich wahrscheinlich gegenseitig bekämpften.
Sammlerstück für alle, die ein echtes Stück Geschichte in ihrer Wunderkammer haben möchten.
Der Mosasaurus ist eine Wasserechse, die vor etwa 70 bis 65 Millionen Jahren, in der Oberkreide, lebte. Es wurde erstmals Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts in Maastricht (Niederlande) entdeckt und von Jean-Baptiste Drouin gesammelt. Dieses Fossil war jedoch unvollständig und bestand nur aus dem Schädel des Tieres. Von den 1770er bis 1820er Jahren tauchten weitere Fossilien auf. Im Jahr 1829 nannte Gideon Mantell es Mosasaurus.
