L'icona è stata esposta nella mostra “Eikòna – Immagini sacre nelle icone della cultura ortodossa”. a Sassari alla Sala Duce di Palazzo Ducale dal 19 dicembre 2013 al 7 gennaio 2014 collezione Iuri Tomassi Nella sezione "Icone da viaggio dipinte". (Volantino in foto)

La Vergine, stante su una nuvola con in braccio il figlio Gesù, è rappresentata come regina, con la corona e lo scettro. Intorno alla mandorla, emblema di santità, che circonda la madre col figlio, si accalcano numerosi fedeli supplicanti, divisi in sei gruppi e identificati da iscrizioni. A sinistra, dall’alto, sono raffigurati gli offesi, protetti da un angelo, gli ignudi e i pellegrini, riconoscibili per i bastoni e le sacche da viaggio. Nella colonna di destra, dall’alto, sono rappresentati gli affamati, con un angelo davanti a una tavola apparecchiata, gli afflitti, inginocchiati mentre tendono le mani verso la Vergine, gli infermi, seduti a terra con stampelle.

L’icona è una variante dell’iconografia di ‘Maria gioia di tutti gli afflitti’, la cui diffusione conobbe notevole fortuna dalla fine del XVII secolo, in seguito ad un miracolo operato dall’icona della chiesa della Trasfigurazione sulla via Ordynka a Mosca. 
Qualche infinitesima mancanza di colore dovuta al fatto che l'icona è pregata, che non inficia la bellezza dell'oggetto ma ne attesta la datazione!
