Duvel Distilled 70cl aged for 10 years in Marsala casks. Bottle number 13802.

A boundless curiosity and a passion for craft. That combination is the golden recipe behind all beers at Duvel-Moortgat. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of their family brewery, they launched a limited edition of Duvel Distilled 2 years ago. Thanks to the resounding success and continued dedication, they are releasing a Duvel Distilled 2023 edition.

Everything starts with the essence of a Duvel. The pure Duvel brew is our starting point. This brew is fired in copper stills and then double distilled. At this point you may recognize the whiskey production process, but Duvel Distilled is so much more than a distillate. Not only does Duvel beer provide a balanced starting point. Duvel Distilled also transcends any standard category due to its aging in oak barrels specially selected for the occasion.

To build on Duvel's characteristic intensity, The distillers, led by master distiller Cédric Heymans, opted for cellar aging in wood. The distilled Duvel was allowed to rest for 10 years in oak barrels of bourbon and sherry, after which the final step was to finish this blend in Sicilian Marsala barrels. Marsala is an age-old fortified sweet wine in which alcohol is added to the fermenting grape juice.

The maturation in Marsala barrels will tickle your nose with spicy aromas of vanilla and cloves. That aromatic strength is supplemented in your mouth with fruity accents. Even after ten years of maturation, Duvel's balanced character remains recognizable. Furthermore, in Duvel Distilled 2023 you can taste the full flavors of cherry, apricot and raisin. These different layers of flavor together form an elegant harmony in which the expressive wood character provides structure and a complex aftertaste.

Duvel Distilled 2023 guarantees a world of flavors and aromas that will undoubtedly include a personal favorite. To bring that wealth to life, they provided this edition with festive packaging with a golden edge. Naturally, they like to keep the design of the bottle recognizable thanks to an inverted version of the iconic tulip-shaped Duvel glass. Also because they want to continue to explore the boundaries of brewing, distilling and distilling.

In other words: they do not shy away from adventure on the way to the best taste experience. Now that they're on the subject. For Cédric and his fellow distillers, the taste experience of Duvel Distilled 2023 is optimal when you taste it neat from a tumbler or tasting glass. But anyone who likes to add a drop of water or ice cube can also take that liberty. They will even encourage enthusiasts who dare to pair with dark chocolate.
