Three original costume designs by the principal costume designer for the Paris Opera, Charles Bianchini. They were for the production, 'The Royal Necklace', first performed at the Imperial Theatre, London, in 1901, with Lily Langtree in there of Marie Antoinette. They form part of the series of 128 specifically executed for the Miss Langtree play. In this case these are numbers 59 (Mme de Polignae), 64 (Mademoiselle Rose Bertin) and 128 (fille galante) and costumes for the scenes in Le Palais Royalle, Versailles. Two of the three are plate signed. 

Charles Bianchini (French, Lyons 1860–1905 Paris) was a classically trained artist and renowned costume designer. Some of his works reside permanently at the Metropolitan Museum, 5th Avenue, New York. He was then Paris Opera official costume designer from 1883 to 1905 when he died from natural causes. While working for the Paris Opera he continued to draw for others, notably that of the Opéra-Comique and The Imperial Theatre, London.
