Gli orologi per piccioni erano famosi in Europa a metà del XIX secolo per i piccioni viaggiatori viaggiatori. Questi orologi venivano usati per registrare un numero di serie che corrispondeva a una fascia sulla zampa del piccione. L'orologio era impostato e sigillato. Quando il piccione tornava, il proprietario rimuoveva la fascia e la collocava in una fessura dell'orologio che registrava l'ora ufficiale del piccione.
