Dornschildbuckel, germanisch, ca. 1. bis 3. Jahrhundert

Runder eiserner Schildbuckel. Mit vier noch vorhandenen rundköpfigen Nieten und rückseitiger Schildfessel; der Buckel einst mittig auf einem runden oder ovalen Schild befestigt. Typisch für die Spätantike ist der abgesetzte, spitzkeglige Abschluss, der germanische Einflüsse wider-spiegelt. Mit guter Eisensubstanz, kleinere Ausbrüche.

Der Schildbuckel ist Teil eines zusammengehörigen Konvoluts, bestehend aus diversen Einzelteilen (siehe meine anderen Auktionen)

Durchmesser 16 cm, Höhe 9 cm. 
Zustand: II – (Fachmännisch konserviert, nicht ergänzt und intakt)

HISTORISCHER HINTERGRUND
Typischer Schildbuckel aus der Zeit der Völkerwanderung. Durch die dornartige Spitze konnte der Schild auch als Offensivwaffe (z.B. im Schildwall) eingesetzt werden. 

Der Schildbuckel ist Teil eines germanischen Brandgrabes. Da sich auch Eisenteile des Zaumzeugs in der Urne befanden, ist anzunehmen, dass der berittene Krieger zusammen mit seinem Pferd verbrannt wurde. 

U.a. durch diese Bestattungsitte sowie durch diverse Einzelteile (u.a. Fragmente einer Trompetenfibel) kann das Konvolut dem Zeitraum 1. bis 3 Jahrhundert zugerechnet werden. Da sich auch römische Artifakte darunter befinden (z.B. römische Reitspore) könnte es sich um einen Auxiliar gehandelt haben. Die Bestattung zusammen mit den Waffen spricht jedoch dafür, dass es sich bei den Waffen um Beutestücke handelte oder der Krieger nicht mehr bei den Legionen diente.
