Dogon medicijn kastje uit Mali.

De Dogon zijn een bevolkingsgroep uit de regio van de Bandiagara kliffen ten oosten van de rivier de Niger.

Dit is een medicijnkastje dat gebruikt werd door de sjamaan. Hierin bewaarde hij geneeskrachtige en magische kruiden.

Het kastje is uit een stuk hout gesneden. Het staat op drie poten en is afgesloten door een deurtje. Het kastje is bewerkt met de typische Dogon motieven. Aan de voorkant op het deurtje zijn voorouderfiguren te zien. Zo ook aan de beide zijkanten. Op de achterkant is een hagedis afgebeeld. Van de hagedis wordt gezegd dat hij symbool staat voor de pijn bij een besnijdenis. Op de bovenkant van het kastje is een voorouder te zien. 

Het kastje is in een goede staat met een mooi patina met een zachte glans.
