Les pallasites sont des météorites très rares dans lesquelles des olivines sont mélangées dans une matrice métallique. Elles proviennent du manteau des grands astéroïdes et ne représentent que 1,7 % des météorites que nous connaissons.

Ce pallasite a d'abord été nommé Habaswein, du nom d'une ville proche de l'endroit où les premiers fragments ont été trouvés. Finalement, la météorite a été officiellement nommée Sericho, d'après la région du Kenya où le premier impact a eu lieu.
Les pallasites contiennent environ 50 % de métal (fer et nickel) et 50 % de silicates (sous forme d'olivine). Ils viennent de l'intérieur de grands astéroïdes. Les pallasites portent le nom du zoologiste et botaniste allemand Peter Simon Pallas, qui a découvert le premier spécimen de ce type de météorite en Sibérie, en Russie, en 1772.
