Uitzonderlijk mooie antieke verguld bronzen kandelaar in de vorm van een Romeinse olielamp met het deksel in de vorm van een mascaron met uitgestoken tong.

Naast dit theatrale masker is het handvat uitgevoerd als een adelaarskop. En aan de voorzijde een portret van de Romeinse wijngod Bacchus.

Theatrale maskers werden veel gebruikt in de Romeinse en Griekse theaters.

Gesigneerd rond de basis “F. Barbedienne” voor Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892).

De kandelaar dateert uit de 19e eeuw en verkeert in sublieme conditie. Er staan nog wat andere exemplaren online maar die komen niet in de buurt van de kwaliteit van dit exemplaar.

Afmetingen: 13 x 7 x 7 cm.
