The Guardia Civil, also called Benemérita in Spain, is a Spanish Police-unit with military and civil functions. 
Condition in conjuncture with the age and use, made of shining leather. There are two small holes on the side. This are supposed to be there to put a feather plum in it.

Dimensions: Diameter 27 cm x Height 10 cm.

Background informative about the Spanish Guardia Civil hat "El Tricornio": 
This three pointed hat, ‘tricornio’ in Spanish, was once the standard hat of the Guardia Civil, the Spanish military Police which dated from 1844. The hat on which the ‘tricornio’ was based, was made of felt, but for the officers of the Guardia Civil a hard shining and black material was used. The edge was not folded back and fixed with a button to the base, but this was designed into the model as such.
During one and a half century the "tricornio" was part of the outfit of the Spanish Guardia Civil, this was also in troubled times of the civil war and the years under the regime of the late dictator Fancisco Franco.
