Sjamaan Masker uit het Himalaya gebergte in Nepal.

Dit masker is gemaakt van behaard jak leer en is 27 cm lang en 18 cm breed.
 
Deze maskers worden gemaakt door eerst hout te bewerken in de juiste vorm. Het hout wordt ingesmeerd met jak boter. Vervolgens wordt het in de juiste vorm gesneden leer van de jak erop gelegd en wordt het bij het vuur gerookt.

In Nepal neemt de Sjamaan een belangrijke rol in de samenleving. De sjamaan draagt dit masker bij het kanaliseren van geesten. Het masker helpt hierbij om de juiste geesten aan te trekken en andere, kwaadaardige geesten te weren. De 'goede' geesten kunnen helpen ziekten te genezen en begeleiden de dorpelingen bij belangrijke verandering in hun leven bij welke de geestenwereld invloed heeft. Dit zijn gebeurtenissen zoals geboorte, verandering van sociale status en de dood. 

Een masker zoals deze kan ook worden opgehangen in huis. In dat geval heeft het een beschermende werking.
