This is a contemporary art Punu mask from Gabon made by an artisan mask making family. The face is embellished with small beads and metal and the head is covered in cowrie shell. 
Punu masks played a special role among the Fauves. They were worn by dancers standing on high stilts during funeral ceremonies. The white face (this one with shells) symbolizes reincarnation.
