1930 Hispano-Suiza Type 48 in very good condition.

- Vehicle used for the first time by the vice president of Hispano-Suiza, Francisco Seix.

- In the same family since new until 2018.

- Bodywork rebuilt by Hispano-Suiza itself.

- Recently restored.

This car was originally registered in Barcelona in 1930 in the name of Francisco Seix Zaya, the then vice president of the company and one of the founding partners of the company in 1904. 

The vehicle’s bodywork was rebuilt after the Spanish Civil War in 1936–1939 at the Hispano-Suiza body workshops in Barcelona with a very elegant and modern aerodynamic style for its time.

I was zealously stored in the family house from 1953 to 2018, when it was taken out and sent for restoration to the prestigious mechanic specialised in Hispano-Suiza, Francisco Palau, who finished the works in 2020. 

The Type 48 was the smallest in the Hispano-Suiza range at the time. It was presented in 1925 as a result of a public competition of the Spanish Government, then led by General Primo de Rivera, to provide official organisations with medium-sized vehicles.

Based on the T-49 model (simplified version of the H6 that was manufactured in France), the prestigious engineer Marc Birkigt designed a smaller model to be manufactured in the factory in Barcelona.

In essence, it was the same engine of the Type 49, but with 4 cylinders instead of 6, and a displacement of 2,498 cc. And despite being the lower model of the range, it also benefited from the best technology of Hispano-Suiza, with direct control timing, pressure greasing, double ignition and the use of light metals, although the block was made of cast iron and had a removable cylinder head, unlike the large H6.

The Type 48 chassis was basically the same as in the Type 49, but with a shortened wheelbase. Its transmission had 4-speeds and had brakes on all 4 wheels with the innovative mechanical brake booster system patented by Marc Birkigt and that so many other companies used under license, including Rolls-Royce.

In short, this was a smaller version of the luxury vehicles of that time and, given its advanced technology, its performance was remarkable.
