This striking Crinoid fossil of the pelagic variety, attached itself to floating wood to feed off the organic-rich surface waters of the ocean. Traumatocrinus hsui would filter food particles through its "feather-like" arms then actively move the food towards its mouth using its tube feet and transport grooves. 

This specimen is beautifully displayed, well centered on the matrix with its double flowery crowns appearing as if in motion, while its stalk anchors the piece in place to the holdfast.

Reassembled and embedded in rock,  the grey background to this peaceful scene gives the impression that the Sea Lily is undulating in an ancient ocean. 

The Crinoid exhibits excellent detail, and the pyritized replacement of the fossil makes this a unique piece. 

The Crinoid's "flowering" crown measures over 16cm across, and the length of this fossil - from the bottom of the stalk to the top of the arms - is over28 cm. This is a massive piece.

NOTE: the fossil is been reassembled on a plate from the same layers, many Protrachyceras ammonites pieces and negative are present. That is not the original matrix. The fossil is not a replica, is original but it is a composite reassembled.
