Material: Wood, hair and yellow copper inlay in the hilt.

Period: 1920-1930.

In general: In a very good condition. Fly-whisks had two functions in Africa. The first served to prevent insects from getting on people or food. They were also part of the regalia of a leader or chief, a symbol of power and authority that accompanied the chief in most of his official duties. Heads, figures, beadwork or other decorations on the handle increased the prestige of the object, which served as a sign of social status.  The hair came from different animals, depending on the region and the customs of the tribe.
