Plaque, made of Limoges enamel, from the 19th century, in neo-Gothic style.

This plaque was made in Limoges, which was already a centre of enamel artists in the High Middle Ages. From the 15th century onwards, the technique of enamel painted on copper arose there, which developed to such a level that it could compete with regular painting. The enamel artist applies layers of enamel, which are coloured by metal oxides, to a copper plate: each colour requires a specific baking process. The light and colour effects testify to the technical excellence of enamel.

At the performance, a kneeling donor to Mary with Child is presented by Saint John the Baptist. Mary appears with Child in a halo seated on a crescent moon.  One angel wears a coat of arms and another a band.

The painting is very refined and in the style of late 15th-century miniature painting.

Dimensions:
- With frame: 20.8 x 14.3 x 2.3 cm
- Without the frame: 17 x 10.6 cm

Condition:
- The plaque is damaged and is missing a small part in the upper right corner. Minor restorations were done  
  in the past to fill gaps. This was probably done immediately after the production process,  
  since the enamel shows some bumps in precisely these zones.
  The wooden frame has damage.
