2 Unique test bricks from Bayer. Below is the story of these very special and rare stones.

LEGO sources its raw material exclusively from Bayer, and the collaboration has been a fact for a long time. 
Bayer and LEGO did tests with the ABS plastic in the years 1962 to 1965. 
All kinds of LEGO bricks have been produced in many different colours. Many colours never came on the market. 

High requirements were drawn up for Lego:
They needed building blocks with a specific hardness and a specific elasticity.
They had to have beautiful colours, which could not fade and absolutely should not be able to distort. 
And children had to be able to have them in their mouths without getting sick. 

Bayer also made LEGO bricks, with the imprint A, B, C, D on the studs. 

These letters represent the grip of the bricks. The A stands for light grip, B for heavier grip, and so on. In the end, the 'C' grip was chosen for the modern LEGO bricks. 

Ole Kirk (or maybe Gadfred) had to decide which one was the best. He decided that it should be the C-brick and since that time the C-standard brick has been Lego's benchmark.

When this C-standard was in place, Bayer started making moulds with a C on every stud where it normally says Lego.
These bricks are called 8xC bricks and come in many colours, but they are mainly more modern colours.
For example, the 8xC bricks give us a pearl light grey brick for the first time.
