Helmet mask - BAMILEKE - Cameroon  This mask was worn, not in front of the face, but placed on the skull. Located in the border region with Nigeria, the province of northwestern Cameroon, the Western High Plateau, is composed of several ethnic groups: The royal headdress at the top, beard, ears are smeared with "Pe". Mixture of palm oil and "padouk" wood, blood red wood, covered with cowries. Several centralized chiefdom, secret societies, are organized around the "Fon" which would have large supernatural powers including that of being able to turn into animals such as the python, the leopard, the elephant.
