Beautiful NRI Superphone 'weekend 4'

Portable tube radio. Made in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg in 1954 (hence model 4) 
Natural leather and wood casing. Original sellers stamp/plate still present. 

We bought this beautiful and very neatly preserved Weekend 4 from the children of the first owner, who remembered that they took it to the beach during summer somewhere in the 50s. It hasn't been used much, though. The device stands incredibly clean and well maintained. 

Works on 90V batteries plus a 1,5 volt battery for the 'glow'  
Very easy to get it running on 220 as well. 


Superphone started production of Weekend 1 in 1951.

- The radio costed (converted) around 50 euros back then, that's a mere 480 (!) euros in today's currency 

- Superphone Weekend was in production until the transistor radio took over around 1957-58.

- The models from and including 3 had improved shortwave properties, which contributed to
that it could not only be sold in the domestic market but also became a significant export item.

- The Superphone Weekend series were pure AM radios with either three or four wave ranges

- TO-R started using transistors in 1957-58 and the name was changed to Superphone Trans-Weekend.
