Questo rosso Ornello prende il proprio nome da uno dei simboli della vita contadina della Maremma toscana. L’ornello è infatti il nome del lungo bastone utilizzato, ancora oggi, dai butteri per radunare e muovere il bestiame. Rocca di Frassinello, realtà produttiva nata dalla partnership fra la cantina Castellare di Castellina e la mitica famiglia francese emblema del vino, i Rothschild, omaggia le tradizioni agresti del territorio con un’etichetta potente, che mantiene però l’eleganza e la freschezza tipica dei prodotti della cantina.

L’Ornello Rocca di Frassinello nasce da un sapiente taglio di uve a bacca rossa, dove il Sangiovese, uva di riferimento in Toscana, si unisce a tre vitigni internazionali che qui si trovano a proprio agio, Merlot, Syrah e Cabernet Sauvignon. Le viti crescono con il sistema del cordone speronato in vigneti situati a circa 90 metri sul livello del mare, in terreni che presentano un sottosuolo ricco di scheletro e argilla. Gli acini, una volta raccolti e portati nei locali adibiti alla vinificazione di Rocca di Frassinello, fermentano per 20 giorni in contenitori d’acciaio a temperatura controllata, per poi maturare dapprima per 6 mesi in barrique e poi, dopo l’imbottigliamento, per altri 6 mesi direttamente in vetro.

Il vino rosso Ornello si annuncia alla vista con un colore intenso e profondo, che richiama la tonalità del rubino. Il naso si svela con sensazioni balsamiche e speziate, impreziosite da rimandi a sfumature fruttate. All’assaggio è di buon corpo, ampio e pieno, con una beva scorrevole, quasi setosa, che presenta un gusto ricco e appagante. Un vino che nasce come omaggio della cantina Rocca di Frassinello ai butteri maremmani, simbolo di un’agricoltura dura e pura, dove il vino era uno dei pochi piacevoli intervalli fra il lavoro faticoso e il meritato riposo.
