The processed glass industry in Malta is quite recent. At the end of the sixties Eric Dobson and Michael Harris arrived from England with the idea of opening the first blown and processed glass industry in Malta; in 1971 Mdina Glass was already a well established company, participating in international events and able to export its products to Italy and the United States.
In the following years, due to high demand, new techniques were introduced to increase the production and quality of glass. In the 1970s and 1980s, exports expanded to Germany and Japan.
In the mid-90s the company tried to find its place in an increasingly globalized world, regularly participating in important international events such as the Milan fair (MACEF) and the National Exhibition Centre Birmingham (NEC), while on the island, new stores were opened in Valletta, Mdina, Bugibba, Sliema and Victoria in Gozo.
During the 2000s, Mdina Glass carried out important interior design works for the Corinthia Towers in Tripoli and for the Hilton and Intercontinental Hotels in Malta: for the first time, Italian processing techniques such as Incalmo, Filigrana and Murrina were used.
