The typewriter that you see in the attached photos, an ARCHO Modell D, is from 1920 and works perfectly. It is a robust, rare and original machine, with its particular mechanics and curved shapes. As you can see in the photos, the typewriter is in exceptional condition.

ARCHO is a horizontal thrust typewriter manufactured between 1920 and 1939 by ARCHO SCHREIBMASCHINEN COMPANY WINTERLING & PFAHL in Frankfurt am Main. Although this machine is very similar to Adler, Empire Orel and others, it appears that it is not the work of Kidder but of the German typewriter designer Carl Winterlinhg.

According to Arnold Betzwieser, ARCHO was one of the first typewriters to be produced in Germany after World War I. Arnold claims that Winterling had worked for Adler before establishing his own company and that Archo's design is based on the Adler-7.

Model D, which is the one I offer in this lot, was the first to be produced, since models A, B and C did not go beyond the experimental phase. ARCHO was said to be "a technically superior office typewriter with a contemporary casing."

The special feature of all ARCHO typewriters is that, like the Adler, it has a visible font with letters and absolute straight lines. Through a toggle link, the type bars slide horizontally on a hardened steel plate and then arrive on a solid type guide for frontal impact, so that all types reach the print at the same height.
