Portrait of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, full-length, turned to the right, wearing crown, armour and a cape, imperial regalia, surrounded by a decorative frame

Giovanni Battista Fontana (1541-1587)
Veronese designer and printmaker; much work in Austria from 1562 onwards. Etchings dated between 1559 and 1579.

Dominic Custos (1560-1612)
Drawer and engraver from Antwerp. He lived in Augsburg starting from 1584. In 1607 he went to Praque in the service of emperor Rudolphe II. 

The Roman Catholic Archduke Ferdinand II of Tirol (1529-1595) was an avid collector of weaponry and armoury, that had originally belonged to all sorts of princes and potentates. He created the  so-called "Spanish Hall" and a collection of over 1000 portraits of European nobleman. He assigned his personal secretary Jacob Schrenck von Notzing to document the collection of the Heldenrüstkammerat Schloss Ambras near Innsbruck, who brought the first Latin version into print in 1601 .

In 1582 Dominicus Custos (1550/59-1615) started to engrave the  portraits after the drawings ofGiovanni Battista Fontana
