Refined pendulum desk clock, Restoration period, Charles X, depicting the goddess Urania, muse of astronomy and geometry
The clock is in mercury gilt bronze, with a fine composition of small glossy parts on an opaque background across its surface, which embellish its overall appearance. Additionally, there are many finely chiselled areas (see the hair of the goddess with curls and stars on her headdress, the hem of the peplos, on the armillary sphere where the signs of the zodiac are clearly depicted, in the part below the dial with a small, highly detailed bust of a scholar, two hippogriffs, curtains and various volumes that are numbered in progression, in the bas-relief of the lower part of the case with cornucopias, smoking oil lamps and festoons of flowers.
The mechanism is in regular working order if well balanced on its support base.
Silk-thread suspension, anchor escapement, comes with bell with square die, pendulum, and winding key
