Surya Rutten

Alasakanya: sculpture of the feminine deity.

The hands are in the Anjali Mudra position.

In the style of the Surya temple in the Buddhist city of Odisha in India.
This type of sculpture is called Alasakanya and decorates the walls of the temple and palaces. 
The relief shows everyday scenes and is made of solid sandstone.
Underneath are feminine figures with mirror, musicians and dancers, love scenes, scenes from the life of the Raja, inside and outside on the palace walls.

This piece comes from a temple installation influenced by Jain.
