A magnificent old Katanga Cross that was used as a means of payment for centuries, in former Belgian Congo. They were already used as currency in the 14th century. They exist in several dimensions and shapes. The smallest one measures a few mm and weighs a few grams, the largest ones can weigh more than 10 kilograms. 
Katanga crosses were used as means of payment in Congo until the 1960s of the 20th century.  

This currency is made of solid red copper, it measures 10 x 10 cm and weighs 365 grams.  This currency still has its tribal colour/patina of origin.  This currency is in good condition and still has its beautiful patina of origin, which is exceptional.
