Unique model of the Lotus 49, signed by Clive Chapman (Classic Team Lotus and son of Colin Chapman) during the HGP in Zandvoort, the Netherlands.
Of this Lotus 49 model, 25 copies were released in a non-limited series.
A total of 8 copies were signed, including this 1!

The Lotus 49 was designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe for GP season 1967. The design of the car was based on the Cosworth DFV engine, this engine was used by almost the entire field of Formula 1 during the 1970s.

Jim Clark won the first race with this car in 1967 at Zandvoort, he won the last race of his career with this car in 1968. Graham Hill became world champion in 1968 with the Lotus 49, the car achieved various other victories up until 1970.

The first year with the 3 litre formula was very difficult for Lotus. Colin Chapman went back to the drawing board and introduced a “back to basics” design, which was a step in the right direction. Inspired by previous designs of for example the Lotus 43 and the Lotus 38 Indy Car, the Lotus 49 was the first Formula 1 car equipped with the famous Ford Cosworth DFV engine, after Colin Chapman convinced Ford to start a production line for Formula 1 engines.
Thanks the to composition of its chassis, the Lotus 49 was an advanced design within Formula 1. The special designed engine was mounted to the monocoque on the one side and to the suspension and the gearbox on the side. This design was subsequently implemented by all Formula 1 engineers.

The Lotus 49 became a test bench for various new developments in Formula 1. Lotus was the first team that used wings. Originally, these wings were mounted to the suspension. The wings stood rather high up on the chassis (about 1 metre), such tall wings were forbidden after a couple of accidents happened. As a consequence, the wings were mounted directly on the bodywork.

During the testing phase, Graham Hill found that the 49 responded quite well to his way of driving, however the power of the Ford engine was difficult to control at first. Graham Hill had his concerns about the sudden outbursts of power of the V8. Nevertheless, Jim Clark won his first race at Zandvoort easily with the Lotus 49 followed by another three victories during that season.
