Mask - Lunda - Ζάμπια - Σπάνια μάσκα Mwana Pwevo

Rare and beautiful Mwana Pwevo mask of the Lunda people living in the border region between Zambia, Congo and Angola.
Ex collection the wellknown collector Alain Bruno - France.
Now in my personal Dutch collection.

This very distinctive mask is a Mwana Pwevo female mask. It consist of a thin wooden face for the face and a solid structure for the headdress. The lines are fine; small scarifications are present on the forehead and cheeks. The one on the forehead is rare.
This mask was worn accompanied by a full braided costume dressing the dancer. He intervened in the rites of circumcision.

wood, beads, metal, shells, textile, buttons, fibre.
One of the large shells has a missing top.
