Here we have a beautifully painted late 19th Century British School, oil on canvas. This artwork is based on the painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau completed in 1895 and titled “The Abduction of Psyche”. The painting is monogrammed lower right and housed in a partly worn frame.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau loved a sickly-sweet romance, and the story of Cupid and Psyche was a perfect inspiration. Like his fellow Neoclassical artists, Bouguereau often depicted scenes from the classical stories of ancient Greece and Rome for inspiration. In this nearly life-sized painting we see the titular Psyche swept into the air by a curly-haired man sporting white wings. They're both physically perfect, incredibly beautiful, and rendered in the delicate pinks and creams that make Bouguereau’s figures instantly recognisable.
An oracle had foretold that the beautiful princess Psyche would marry a monster that neither gods nor men could resist, and that this monster waited for her on a mountain top. With lamentations and a funeral dirge, Psyche and her family climbed the high peak and leave her there to await her fate. But instead of a monster, Zephyr, god of the west wind, gently carried Psyche to a heavenly meadow where she met her prophesied partner, the young god Cupid. This is the moment Bouguereau has captured—Psyche, overcome with relief, swept off to her new life.

The painting is monogrammed indistinctly lower right possibly SC. A fabulous painting which would grace any wall in your home.

I’m sorry you feel this was it was CLEARLY stated that this oil painting was after the said artist. THERE WAS NO MISTAKING WRITTEN ON THE BACK WAS AFTER KRUSEMAN. The photo was included of this fact. The painting was sold as the description and excepted by the experts on Catawiki.

Envoi très pro, aucun dommage depuis l’Angleterre. Bien prévoir les frais de douanes et transports en plus (ups appelle pour dédouaner normalement). En tout cas, le vendeur est fiable. Encore merci!

Thanks for the impeccable selling process and the flawless delivery of the work in the state that was wished for. A slightly irritating detail is the ufortunate effect caused by brexit delay and fee.
