The introduction of a new Vintage Port of excellence in Niepoort's portfolio, Bioma “Vinha da Pisca” gave us the opportunity to create, or recreate, a style of Vintage that not only respects the terroir, but also takes us back to golden age of Port wine. At the heart of the “Vinha da Pisca” Biome concept, there is a very special vineyard, in a very peculiar location in the Douro region. For many years, this vineyard was the basis of Niepoort's Vintages, however, since 2005, we have been able to study the qualities of this vineyard in greater detail, managing it organically and also identifying the excellent wines produced there, such as Bioma 2016, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009, 2008 and Pisca 2007. What we intend to do is offer, with small productions, an old way of making Vintage vinification, similar to Vintage Ports from 1970 and earlier, bottled in England. The exceptional quality of the grapes from the old vineyards of Vinha da Pisca seems to express its sense of “place” in a magnificent way, when we apply the “logic” of other times to it. Appearance marked by dark purple, with aromas of black currants and sweet dark cherries, spices and soft floral notes of violets. Very firm on the initial palate, with superb acidic freshness and dark fruits highlighted on the mid-palate, together with fine and grainy tannins, which gives it a long, silky and dry alcoholic finish. This is a Port wine suitable for storage in cellars for a long period. Perfect with Queijo da Serra, Stilton or other “blue” cheeses. Desserts with egg sweets, especially sponge cake.

We had to deal with a mess-up with the shipping company, but the seller was very helpful and caring throughout the process making it a good experience in the end. Obrigado!
