A cage-cup is a vessel decorated with openwork and made by blowing a thick-walled blank of glas.
Common is a colorless glass but this one is made of pale green glass. Followed, after cooling, by cutting.
Roman cage cups have one or more of the following openwork features; a support of numerous small-diameter posts or 'struts''. A network of contiguous circles creating a mesh, the ''cage''; an inscription and an ovolo frieze.
Cage cups are also known as diatretum, a perforated vessel. Made by cutting and sanding. A product from a master glassmaker.

This cage cup is sold by Auction-house Arcane Enchères, Paris and was part of an auction ''Archéologie, Histoire Naturelle et Mineraux'' 2021. The auction house dated it to the Islamo-Byzantine period, but probably this cage cup should be dated later.
