The Order of the Patriotic War is the first Soviet award of the Second World War. It is also the first Soviet order that was divided into degrees.
The Order was founded by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 20, 1942.
The order is awarded to the rank and file officers of the Red Army, the Navy, the NKVD troops and partisan units, who have shown bravery, steadfastness and bravery in the battles for the Motherland.
The order had two degrees: I and II.
